Nicola Marzari among the most highly cited scientists in 2023

The intelligence company Clarivate produces an annual list of Highly Cited Researchers,  global research scientists and social scientists who have contributed disproportionately to extending the frontiers of knowledge in their respective fields.

Each researcher selected has authored multiple highly cited papers which rank in the top 1% by citations for their field(s) and publication year in the Web of Science over the past decade. However, citation activity is not the sole selection indicator. A preliminary list based on citation activity is then refined using qualitative analysis and expert judgement. 

This year's list includes NCCR MARVEL Director Nicola Marzari, who leads the Laboratory for Materials Simulations (LMS) at the Paul Scherrer Institute and the Laboratory of Theory and Simulation of Materials at EPFL. Marzari had already made the Clarivate list in 2018 and 2019 .
