We are happy to announce that Veronika Lamparská (Univ. Stuttgart), Sofia Petrova (KU Leuven), and Mridhula Venkatanarayanan (EPFL) were granted INSPIRE Potentials – MARVEL Master's Fellowships after the April 2025 call. The three women will join MARVEL labs for a 6-month Master's research project — congratulations!

  • Veronika Lamparská from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, will join the group of Giuseppe Carleo at EPFL from mid-September 2025
  • Sofia Petrova from KU Leuven, Belgium, will join the group of Clémence Corminboeuf at EPFL from December 2025.
  • Mridhula Venkatanarayanan from EPFL will join the group of Ivano Tavernelli at IBM from January 2026.

These three students bring the number of fellowships to 59 since the 2016 launch of the initiative, which involves two calls per year. Of these, 18 are already continuing at the PhD level in a MARVEL group or ex-MARVEL group or even finished their PhD there. Of those who left, at least 24 are continuing or will continue at the PhD level outside MARVEL in Switzerland or abroad. For those continuing at the PhD level in the field of MARVEL, the INSPIRE Potentials project is often crucial in the decision to stay in the domain.

The INSPIRE Potentials fellowships aim to empower excellent female students to conduct their Master's research project in simulation and modelling in a laboratory belonging to the NCCR MARVEL. With the end if the NCCR MARVEL in spring 2026, the next round of fellowships will be funded directly by the groups welcoming the students. The application process will still be central, with an application deadline on 1st November 2025, and all the information available here.
