We are happy to announce that Lisa Ruth Andreozzi (Sapienza, Roma), Natalie E. Hooven (Univ. Wisconsin, Madison), and Ruth Mora Soto (Univ. Politècnica de Catalunya) were granted INSPIRE Potentials – MARVEL Master's Fellowships after the November 2025 call. The three women will join MARVEL labs for a 3 to 6 month research project — congratulations!

  • Lisa Ruth Andreozzi from Sapienza Università di Roma, Italy, will join the group of Nicola Marzari at EPFL from March until August 2026.
  • Natalie E. Hooven from University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA, will join the group of Michele Ceriotti at EPFL from May until October 2026.
  • Ruth Mora Soto from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Spain will join the group of Zoë Holmes at EPFL from July until September 2026.

These three students bring the number of fellowships to 62 since the 2016 launch of the initiative, which involves two calls per year. Of these, 19 are already continuing at the PhD level in a MARVEL group or ex-MARVEL group or even finished their PhD there. Of those who left, at least 24 are continuing or will continue at the PhD level outside MARVEL in Switzerland or abroad. For those continuing at the PhD level in the field of MARVEL, the INSPIRE Potentials project is often crucial in the decision to stay in the domain.

The INSPIRE Potentials fellowships aim to empower excellent female students to conduct their Master's research project in simulation and modelling in a laboratory belonging to the NCCR MARVEL. With the end of MARVEL by the summer of 2026, these fellowships won't continue. Opportunities exist within other NCCRs, such as the INSPIRE Potentials SPIN Master’s fellowships or the young talents fellowship of NCCR Catalysis, and news fellowships may come out with the launch of the 6th series of NCCRs in spring 2026. Stay tuned.

At EPFL, the MX Master fellowship program proposes a continuation to the MARVEL INSPIRE Potentials fellowships. Other opportunities are the INSPIRE Quantum Master Award, also at EPFL, and the INSPIRE Potentials - Quantum Center Master Award, at ETH Zurich.
