Executive Committee Member Thomas Schulthess wins 2019 Doron Prize

The Doron Prize was established in 1986 by Marc Rich to annually recognize and support Swiss individual initiatives and charitable endeavors in the fields of social welfare, humanitarian, culture and science.

Schulthess was chosen for the award by the board members of the Swiss Foundation for the Doron Prize, which is composed of  Swiss public leaders from the civic and non-profit sectors. He is being recognized for his exceptional contributions to high-performance computing.

"Thanks to his scientific and technological work, Professor Dr. Thomas Schulthess created an essential foundation for the success of research groups who use CSCS's infrastructure and carry out numeric research," the foundation said. "CSCS has been offering the highest performance calculations in Europe since about five years and is among the main centers globally."

In 2016, former MARVEL member Ursula Röthlisberger, professor of computational chemistry and biochemistry at the Institute of Chemical Sciences and Engineering at EPFL won the award for her  outstanding contributions to the development of complex, computer-aided multiscale simulation methods and their application in physical, chemical and biochemical systems.
