  • Shapes Symposium

    In complementarity with the Shapes: Patterns in Art and Science exhibition, this symposium, taking place on 12 February at EPFL, is intended as a meeting place for a convivial dialogue between art and science, offering a dynamic space for exchange where artists and scientists can confront their ideas and nurture enriching debates. The audience will be invited to take an active part in these discussions, contributing to a collective reflection on the creations and concepts that emerge at the crossroads of these two worlds.

  • MARVEL Distinguished Lecture — Gerbrand Ceder

    The 39th NCCR MARVEL Distinguished Lecture will be given by Prof. Gerbrand Ceder (University of California, Berkeley). He will be presenting a lecture entitled: "How the future of science may look:  AI and autonomous laboratories for materials synthesis".

  • CECAM-MARVEL Classics in molecular and materials modelling: David Ceperley

    David Ceperley (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, USA) will give a lecture on "Quantum Monte Carlo methods in the continuum", in what will be the 11th event in the series "Classics in molecular and materials modelling" hosted by CECAM and MARVEL.

  • MARVEL Review and Retreat January 2025

    The eleventh MARVEL Review and Retreat will take place on January 13-15, 2025. The event will gather all MARVEL members, group leaders as well as postdocs and students. Presentations will show to all the community where the projects stand and what are the next steps.

We are pleased to propose the 63rd MARVEL Junior Seminar: Mauro Dossena (Integrated systems laboratory, ETHZ) and Stefan Riemelmoser (Chair of atomic scale simulation - CSEA, EPFL) will present their research.

    The MARVEL Junior Seminars aim to intensify interactions between the MARVEL Junior scientists belonging to different research groups – this is held in hybrid mode, in order to maintain in-person contacts and allow off-campus attendees to follow the seminars remotely! We are pleased to propose the 62nd MARVEL Junior Seminar: Flaviano dos Santos (Laboratory for materials simulations, PSI) and Fatemeh Haddadi (Lab. of theory and simulation of materials - THEOS, EPFL) will present their research. The seminar will be chaired by Manuel Rudolph (Lab. of quantum information and computation - QIC, EPFL).

  • CECAM workshop "Challenges and perspective in computational modelling for fusion reactors"

    On 28-29 October, CECAM will host a workshop on "Challenges and perspective in computational modelling for fusion reactors", co-organised by MARVEL Director Nicola Marzari with over 30 talks on how simulations help fusion technology.

  • MARVEL seminar: "Charge localization, dynamics, and phase transitions in halide perovskites" (Julia Wiktor)

    This MARVEL seminar will be given by Julia Wiktor, Assistant Professor at Chalmers university (Sweden). She will be giving a presentation entitled: "Charge localization, dynamics, and phase transitions in halide perovskites".

  • MARVEL Junior Retreat 2024

    The sixth MARVEL Junior Retreat will take place from dinnertime September 10 until lunch on September 13, 2024. It will give PhD students and Postdocs involved in MARVEL groups the opportunity to interact, share their experiences, learn about each other’s research, start new collaborations and discuss various aspects that are relevant for young researchers. The focuses of this year’s MARVEL Junior Retreat are “entrepreneurship, technology transfer, intellectual property rights”.

  • IMX Seminar Series - Prof. Emmanouil Kioupakis (Uni of Michigan)

    Emmanouil Kioupakis is a professor of Materials Science and Engineering and of Applied Physics at the University of Michigan, and is currently a visiting professor at EPFL, hosted by MARVEL, until June 2025.
