Research data is a precious good. Where is the balance between protecting it and opening it? How can you manage the way it is reused by others? In this Noon Talk, the topic of data licensing will be presented from various points of view.  After a brief introduction on current practices by the Library, three speakers will share their experience and point of view about research data licensing.

From February 11th to 15th, the EPFL Library is hosting activities in the context of the Love Data Week 2019. This international event aims to share awareness about research data management among researchers. On this occasion, EPFL Library offers you several activities and events online and the Rolex Learning Center.

The Open Science Days are periodically organized by the Max Planck Digital Library to touch on various aspects of the global movement towards a more open and transparent approach to science. The program will touch on Open Access, Open Research Data, Linked Open Data, Open Review, Open Source, Citizen Science and Open Education. MARVEL's Giovanni Pizzi will be speaking on "Open Science Platform for Materials Science: AiiDA and the Materials Cloud ." 

On January 24, 25, 28 and 30, MARVEL is holding a mini-series of four seminars covering key topics ranging from machine learning to wavefunction methods, as well as advanced DFT and metals.

Welcome to the 21st MARVEL Junior Seminar on Thursday January 17, 2019, 12:15 pm, EPFL, room MED 0 1418. Max Veit (EPFL, COSMO) will address 'Machine learning potentials for liquid alkanes' and Predrag Andric (EPFL, LAMMM) will give a presentation entitled 'Intrinsic ductility as a precursor to ductile fracture'. The seminar is chaired by Edgar Engel.

Tuesday 8 January 2019 at 18:00, Nicola Marzari, director of MARVEL, will give a public conference in Italian entitled "Novel materials to rethink the world" at the Palazzo di Toppo Wassermann in Udine (IT). This conference is part of the series "Aperture" organized by the Fondazione Friuli of the Università di Udine. 

Welcome to the 20th MARVEL Junior Seminar on Thursday December 6, 2018, 12:15 pm, EPFL, room ELA2. Patrick Gono (EPFL, CSEA) will give a presentation entitled "Free Energies from Density Functional Theory Calculations" and Quansheng Wu (EPFL, C3MP) will present "First-principle prediction of a Dirac semimetal and its topological phase transition". The seminar is chaired by Daiane Damasceno Borges.

The 17th NCCR MARVEL Distinguished Lecture will be given by Prof. Feliciano Giustino from the Department of Materials, University of Oxford, on "Electron-phonon physics from first principles".

The 2018 edition of Scientastic, the EPFL Science Festival, being held on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 November, will bring you to the heart of the digital world: MARVEL will be part of the adventure.

An installation sponsored by NCCR MARVEL and EPFL's Institute of Materials will be presented for the first time at 16:30 on Thursday, 8 November in the entry hall of building MX on the EPFL campus. Please join us to celebrate.

Daniele Ongari (EPFL, LSMO) gives a presentation on 'AiiDA for gas adsorption in nanoporous materials' and Francesco Nattino (EPFL, THEOS) on 'Continuum models of the electrochemical diffuse layer in electronic-structure calculations'. The seminar is chaired by Kun-Han Lin.
